REFLECTION #4

This window display by far is my favorite one on this blog yet. The feeling that I get from looking at it is peace and it makes me think that I am standing in a field full of cherry blossom trees. The company did a great job with not having it look to over done or to under done. Even though the trees are big, it does not take away the emphasis of the dress.  The tree does give the display tension with the puffiness of the pink flowers and how they match the dresses flowers as well. The color choices of the dress and the props go well together since they are within the guidelines for merchandising by color. For example, the colors used fall in the muted/ dusty group and the neutral group. It is not okay to combine two groups together but, in this case, there is an exception when it comes to combining a color group with the neutral color group. The brown and nude color in the dress is a perfect example of of how the designer combine those two colors with the muted/dusty pinks and blues.

BAD

Every though on the top part of the display is esthetically pleasing due to the color order of the pants, I do consider this picture an example of a bad display for one main reason. When you take a look at the bottom half where all the pants are folded, I can’t seem to wrap my head around what their thought process was with the organization of them. For instance, the organization of the pastel colors isn’t consistent of its order like the darker colors, it’s kind of all over the place. Maybe the way its organized works for the company, but it doesn’t meet the presentation guidelines for fashion cubes. The guidelines indicate that the same color should be vertically lined up with the top having the smallest size moving down to the largest size on the bottom. This display could have followed the guidelines but chose not to do so. In my opinion it was a poor decision because it could have made it look put together and pleasing to the ear to see the colors in the correct order for a display.
